The Child Development Supplement (CDS) was created to provide researchers with comprehensive, nationally representative, longitudinal data on children and their families to study the dynamic process of early human capital formation.
The 2019 wave of CDS (CDS-2019) was administered in 2019-2020 and includes information collected from 4,629 children aged 0-17 and their primary caregivers in PSID families (see the CDS-2019 User Guide).
The 2021 wave of CDS (CDS-2021) was administered in 2021-2022 and includes information collected from 2,590 children aged 0-17 and their primary caregivers in PSID families (see the CDS-2021 User Guide).
During all waves since 2002 (CDS-II) youth 12 years of age and older completed telephone interviews using interactive voice response (IVR) that included questions on sensitive topics. The survey questionnaire is available
here. These topics included relationships, risky behaviors, and substance use.
